I have had such a lovely day today, working with Margaret McHardy, one of our Melbourne based Powertex Trainers. Marg completed Level Three today and will be back in two weeks to complete Level Four. She is pictured with her beautiful piece, completed with fibres, Powertex (of course!), StoneARt, pigments, sand and Bister, to create the crackle effect. Congratulations Margaret. On Friday, I am off to Daylesford to train our four new Certified Powertex Trainers, who are going to complete their Level One and Two. So excited, it should be lots of fun!! Photos next week and keep an eye the websiter for our new trainers from Melbourne, Geelong, Rochester and Bacchus Marsh.

Well, we are just weeks away from the Craft and Quilt Fair at the Exhibition Centre in Melbourne. It is getting very exciting and I am pleased to announce a new website and lots of new training and workshops dates as well as a streamlined booking form for workshops!! It has been a very busy week coordinating all of this and lots of hours in front of the computer working on the website instead of being down in the studio. All worthwhile though. I will be at a number of new venues after the Craft and Quilt Fair for workshops and the Certified Powertex Trainer Course. The new venues are:
And of course, I will be teaching from the studio in Churchill, perfect for small groups. Link here to the new booking form Had a great weekend working with Jan Drougas from Beaumaris on 29th/30th March while she completed Level 3 and 4 of the Certified Powertex Training Course. Jan is an amazingly talented lady, who makes the quirkiest little birds you will ever see (pictured below), as well as many beautiful sculptures. You will get to meet Jan and see her amazing work at the Quilt and Craft Fair in June, as part of the Victorian Powertex team. Congratulations Jan!! When I am not making Faerie Bears, I am playing with Powertex. It is so good to be back down in the studio creating. Let me introduce "Rough Red", "Goldiwho?" and "I've got the blues". Other designs will be available and they can be done in any colour combination. Finished off with Powercotton for feathers and StoneArt air-dry clay for the wings and beak. These crazy birds will be available as a half day workshop and also available on a Monday night, at the Churchill studio. Larger birds can be made on request, up to 1 metre tall. Once cured they will be available to go out in your garden on the stand or can be made to hang in a tree or under a pergola. I have a couple under construction that will be in full flight. How fabulous to see Powertex Australia at so many Stiches and Craft Shows and Quilt and Craft Fairs throughout Australia and New Zealand next year. I am so excited about being at both major shows next year with Ashley, the Importer/Owner of Powertex Australia in Melbourne next year. The Quilt and Craft Fair will be on from Thursday, 26th to Sunday, 29th of June and the Stiches and Craft Show is at Caulfield Race Course from Thursday, 23rd to Sunday, 26th of October. 2014 will be a great Powertex year!! Over the last few days I have been making a few different things for the market at Hanging Rock on Sunday. Some candle holders, Yin and Yang inspired sculptures, Buddha candle holders and some new wall art. A nice change!! I will have to take photos of the other things on Sunday, as they are already packed into the van. For anyone after a great day on Sunday, the Hanging Rock Market should be fabulous. Hope the rain stays away!! Lots of stall holders and of course, Hanging Rock as the most spectacular backdrop for this market. For more information, link to the Craft Markets Australia page here. I have finally unpacked the final boxfrom the Craft and Quilt Fair in Melbourne last weekend. What a fabulous experience it was, and how great for Powertex and "Faeries with Attitude" to get such exposure in Melbourne. Many thanks to both Ash and Mark, from Powertex Australia, for such an opportunity. Also, thanks to Sharron, Caren and Lyn for helping out on the stand during the Fair and being our support people while Ash and I demonstrated or held workshops. For the wonderful artwork that was on the stand, thanks to Val, Kaz, Sharron and Caren. There were so many compliments about the standard and variety of artwork. We were so lucky to get the additional space above the stand to display the fantastic mixed media and PowerPrint pieces. Thanks also to Ken, my husband. He was up the ladder hanging artwork, helping shift stock, doing a lot of the "heavy stuff" during set-up and then on Sunday night, taking it all back down again. I feel as if it has taken all week to recover, but will be back into workshops and the Certified Powertex Trainer Course this week!!
Ashley Bowley from Powertex Australia, the importer of Powertex, and Rhonda Hunt, Victorian Distributor and Trainer.
How fantastic does the Powertex stand, at the Craft and Quilt Fair look?? What a huge job, many hours of work, lots of laughter, frustration at trying to get the artwork to hang straight, boxes everywhere, things missing, scissors gone AWOL, and finally a display that looks wonderful. Featuring artwork by some of the Victorian Powertex Team, there are many beautiful examples for to inspire you, demonstrating what can be achieved with the fabulous Powertex range of products. There are lots of great show "specials", and workshops and demonstrations throughout the day. Every day, I will be doing a "Christmas in July" Christmas Bauble demonstration, and a fabric tealight holder workshop. Ash will be doing a Powerprint demonstration daily and a beautiful mask workshop tomorrow at 4.00pm. Looking forward to a fabulous four days!!
Lois and Jocelyn with some of their work.
Well, I have had a fabuous weekend working with Lois, Jocelyn and Kaz as they finished off their Level 3 and 4 Certified Powertex Trainer Course. Wonderful to see the results that can be achieved using Powertex products, by some very clever people!! Although there were some concerns that they had not painted much in the past, all the girls achieved wonderful results, proving they were more talented that they were giving themselves credit for. Lois and Jocelyn finished their mixed media pieces on Saturday for Level 3 and today Kaz joined them to finish Level 4. Kaz's work can also be seen on her Facebook page, Quintessential. Have just had a fantastic couple of days working with our newest Certified Powertex Trainers in Victoria, Lois and Jocelyn Abbott. Another mother and daughter team!! Lois and Jocelyn are located in Melbourne and their contact details will be on the Powertex Australia site soon. Pictured are the finished sculptures and stone art pieces completed as part of the Level One and Tqo Trainer Course, and some photos taken during the making of the pieces. Lois and Jocelyn will be completing Level Three and Four at the end of June. The mother and child stone art piece that Lois completed featured a beautiful quote: "He who sleeps under a quilt is warmed by love". New training dates will be announced soon. Following the Craft and Quilt Fair at the end of July, I will be conducting the Certified Powertex Trainer Course at venues around the State, and at the Churchill Studio. Dates and venues to be listed on the Powertex Australia and "Faeries" site soon!! |
